Krigger Taken to Hospital After Spill
Jockey Kevin Krigger, who was unseated when his mount,
Ricsprentiousgal, clipped heels during the stretch run of Santa Anita’s
fifth race on Friday, was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena for
examination.
Krigger,
30, clipped the heels of original winner Indecise, who was ridden by Garrett
Gomez, inside the eighth pole in the one-mile race on turf. None of the
horses involved appeared to be seriously injured and Gomez was subsequently
disqualified to last by the stewards for interference.
A
native of St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Krigger had three wins on
Thursday at Santa Anita and is currently tied for eighth in the jockey
standings with seven wins overall.
He has received a good deal of national attention of late, as he is the regular rider of leading Kentucky Derby hopeful Goldencents, who was a winner of the Grade III Sham Stakes on Jan. 5.
