Kimura, Walcott are off mounts after being unseated Saturday
Jockeys Kazushi Kimura and Rico Walcott are off their mounts for the rest of the day after a pair of incidents in Saturday's first race at Woodbine.
Both Kimura and Walcott were taken off the course by emergency medical personnel after the race according to a Tweet from Ron Gierkink of Daily Racing Form. Gierkink later Tweeted that Walcott appeared to escape serious injury, while Kimura is suspected of having a concussion.
The race was a $10,000 starter optional-claiming race at 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass. Kimura rode Uncle Bull, the 6-5 favorite, who tracked the pace and fell near the three-sixteenths pole, unseating Kimura. Walcott rode 8-1 shot Al Heybay, one of two horses who steadied to avoid the fallen Uncle Bull according to the Equibase chart of the race. Al Heybay finished seventh, 38 1/4 lengths behind winner Master Spy.
The chart noted that Uncle Bull walked off the course after the race. It did not note Al Heybay's fall after the wire, though a Tweet from Gierkink said he appeared "fine" after the incident.
With 50 wins in 218 starts, Kimura is the runaway leading rider at the Woodbine meet so far, 21 wins clear of second-place rider Rafael Hernandez. Hernandez took the ride from Kimura on Silent Reserve in Race 3, the Lake Huron Stakes, finishing second behind Patches O'Houlihan at odds of 8-5. In the other stakes on the card, the Georgian Bay, Justin Stein takes Kimura's mount on Cara Cara.
Walcott has 8 wins in 60 starts at the meet, placing him 15th in the standings. He was not named in either of the stakes races on Saturday.
