Kentucky Oaks 2024: The top 14 contenders at a glance
The Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks doesn’t get as many headlines as the Kentucky Derby, so you might not know much about the top contenders. But with a $1.5 million purse, it’s the richest race for 3-year-old fillies in the U.S.
As many as 14 fillies will enter the Churchill Downs starting gate for the 1 1/8-mile race on May 2. Here’s a look at the top contenders on the leaderboard.
Tarifa, trained by Brad Cox. The daughter of Bernardini is 3-for-3 this year, with wins in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) and the Rachel Alexandra (G2).
Where’s My Ring, Val Brinkerhoff. The Twirling Candy filly has a record of 8: 1-3-1, but that win came in the Gazelle (G3) last out to qualify her for the Kentucky Oaks.
Power Squeeze, Jorge Delgado. The Union Rags filly has won four starts starting with her maiden in October, most recently scoring in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2).
Leslie’s Rose, Todd Pletcher. A daughter of Into Mischief, she’s 3-for-4, most recently beating Just F Y I by three lengths in the Ashland (G1).
Thorpedo Anna, Kenny McPeek. The Fast Anna filly has won three of her four starts, most recently with a four-length victory in the Fantasy (G2). Her only loss was a second-place finish in the Golden Rod (G2) last fall.
Just F Y I, Bill Mott. The daughter of Justify was the champion 2-year-old filly after going 3-for-3 with a win in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She was second to Leslie’s Rose in the Ashland in her only start this year.
Gin Gin, Brad Cox. This Hightail filly has a record of 7:2-2-2 and picked up qualifying points in five races without winning any of them. She was third last out in the Gazelle.
Jody’s Pride, Jorge Abreau. This American Pharoah filly won her first two starts before finishing second by a neck in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. She returned with a win in the Busanda but was seventh last out in the Ashland.
Fiona’s Magic, Michael Yates. The daughter of St Patrick’s Day has a record of 6: 3-2-0. She won the Davona Dale (G2) in March but was eighth last out in the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2).
Regulatory Risk, Chad Brown. The Omaha Beach filly is 1-for-5 and placed second last out in the Busher, 4 1/4 lengths behind Where’s My Ring and 5 1/4 lengths ahead of Gin Gin.
Tapit Jenallie, Eddie Milligan Jr. The Tapit filly won her first two starts and is 0-for-4 since. She was third in the Fantasy and second in the Honeybee (G3) before that.
Everland, Eric Foster. A daughter of Arrogate, she would make her first start on dirt in the Kentucky Oaks. She won the listed Bourbonette Oaks last out at Turfway Park.
Lemon Muffin, D. Wayne Lukas. The Collected filly earned her Kentucky Oaks points with a win in the Honeybee, her only victory in seven career starts.
Into Champagne, Ian Wilkes. The daughter of Into Mischief won her first two starts then was second by a half-length in the Davona Dale and third last out in the Gulfstream Park Oaks.
