Kentucky Downs: Gaffalione is top jockey, Walsh is top trainer
Neither Tyler Gaffalione nor Brendan Walsh won a graded stakes at the recently concluded Kentucky Downs meet, but they came out on top of the jockey and trainer standings.
Gaffalione took the title for the second straight year, finishing the meet with 12 wins from 71 starts and earnings of $2,706,419.
Joel Rosario was next in the standings, with seven wins from 51 starts and earnings of $2.4 million.
The seven-day Kentucky Downs meet, with all 76 races on turf, began Aug. 31 and ended Wednesday.
Walsh postsed eight wins from 28 starts and earnings of $1,701,584. Michael Maker and Saffie Joseph Jr. were tied for second, with five wins apiece.
Ken Ramsey was the top owner, with three wins from 13 starts and earnings of $555,317. Augustin Stables and Three Diamonds Farm each had two wins.
Fitri Hay, owner of Mint Millions (G3) winner Ancient Rome, was highest earner among owners with $1,176,600 from her only start at the meet.
