Kentucky Derby works: Obliteration, Spice Runner drill
Graded winners Obliteration and Spice Runner, both trained by Steve Asmussen, were among the Kentucky Derby 2026 hopefuls who worked Wednesday morning.
Obliteration, winner of the Grade 3 Sanford and 50-1 in Las Vegas odds this week, breezed four furlongs in 49.8 seconds at Fair Grounds, 54th fastest of 112 at the distance.
Spice Runner, winner of the Iroquois (G3), breezed four furlongs at Oaklawn in 50.8 seconds, 32nd fastest of 50. He as at 60-1 in Vegas odds this week.

Obliteration (Violence), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Sanford), worked four furlongs in 49.8 seconds at Fair Grounds on Wednesday morning. It was the 54th fastest of 112 works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going three furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint going five furlongs on the turf at Del Mar on Oct. 31 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Spice Runner (Gun Runner), a Grade 3 winner (2025 Iroquois), worked four furlongs in 50.8 seconds at Oaklawn on Wednesday morning. It was the 32nd fastest of 50 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed seventh in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 29 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Exosome (Candy Ride) worked four furlongs in 50.2 seconds at Turfway Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 15th fastest of 30 works at the distance. His previous work was 14 days ago going five furlongs at Turfway Park. In his last start he won a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 19 for trainer Kelsey Danner.
Maximus Prime (Maximus Mischief) worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at The Thoroughbred Center on Wednesday morning. It was the 13th fastest of 37 works at the distance. His previous work was 12 days ago going five furlongs at The Thoroughbred Center. In his last start he placed fifth in a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 18 for trainer Anthony Mitchell.
