Kentucky Derby works: Dornoch leads 6 hopefuls with a bullet
Dornoch breezed four furlongs Tuesday at Palm Meadows, his second work since winning the Grade 2 Remsen on Dec. 2.
The Good Magic colt covered the distance in 49.15 seconds, fastest of six at the distance. Trainer Danny Gargan said he is pointed to the March 3 Fountain of Youth for his next start.
In Kentucky Derby 2024 futures, Dornoch was the second choice behind Fierceness in Las Vegas, best priced at 15-1. He closed at 15-1 in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool 3, also the second choice behind Fierceness.
A former Kentucky Derby hopeful, Muth, worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 on Tuesday for trainer Bob Baffert at Santa Anita, the fastest of five at the distance. Winner of the American Pharoah (G1) and San Vicente (G2), Muth is not eligible for the Kentucky Derby because he was not transferred to another trainer before a Monday deadline. Baffert is on indefinite suspension from Churchill Downs Inc. tracks.
Dornoch was one of six horses in Las Vegas futures who had published works Tuesday.
Boltage (Bolt d'Oro) worked four furlongs in 47.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Tuesday morning. It was the fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going three furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed fourth in the San Vicente (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 6 for trainer Richard Mandella.
Doncho (Mo Town) worked five furlongs in 1:00.6 at Fair Grounds on Tuesday morning. It was the second fastest of 27 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won a maiden race going six furlongs on the main track at Fair Grounds on Dec. 30 for trainer Michelle Lovell.

In his last start he won a maiden race going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 20 for trainer Bob Baffert.
Top Gun Rocket (Into Mischief) worked five furlongs in 1:03.8 at Palm Meadows on Tuesday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start he placed eighth in a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25 for trainer Riley Mott.
Wecallemfuncoupons (Twirling Candy) worked four furlongs in 48.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 70 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed second in a starter allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Jan. 5 for trainer Jeffrey Englehart.
