Kentucky Derby works: Dornoch fires a bullet ahead of Blue Grass
Dornoch worked four furlongs Saturday at Palm Meadows in 47.2 seconds, fastest of 34 at the track and distance, ahead of an expected start in next Saturday's Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes.
The Good Magic colt trained by Danny Gargan already has clinched a spot in Kentucky Derby 2024 after earning 60 qualifying points from wins in the Fountain of Youth (G2) last out and the Remsen (G2) in the fall. The Blue Grass offers 100-50-25-15-10 points to the top five eligible finishers.
Sierra Leone, winner of the Risen Star (G2) last out, also worked ahead of an expected Blue Grass start. He breezed four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Payson Park, 12th fastest of 47 at the distance.
In all, 28 horses in Las Vegas futures for the Kentucky Derby had published works Saturday.
Antonio of Venice (Laoban) worked four furlongs in 49.8 seconds at Belmont Park on Saturday morning. It was the 151st fastest of 220 works at the distance.
