Kentucky Derby works with video: Barnes is 1 of 6 hopefuls on tab
Barnes, the $3.2 million colt who won his debut last month at Churchill Downs, was back on the work tab Sunday morning in anticipation of his 3-year-old debut on the road to Kentucky Derby 2025.
The Into Mischief colt owned by Zedan Racing Stables and trained by Bob Baffert drilled a half-mile in 48.8 seconds on the fast main track at Santa Anita. That is where the track’s racing office said he was probable to start Saturday in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes.
There were six workouts Sunday by 2-year-olds who are in the Nevada futures market for the Derby.
Barnes (Into Mischief) worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the 19th fastest of 56 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going six furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won a maiden race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 27 for trainer Bob Baffert.
Caldera (Liam’s Map) worked five furlongs in 1:01.4 at Oaklawn on Sunday morning. It was the fifth fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start he placed second in a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on Dec. 13 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
Disco Time (Not This Time) worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 65 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won an allowance race going one mile on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 30 for trainer Brad Cox.
Dr Ruben M (Vino Rosso) worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the 34th fastest of 56 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Remington Springboard Mile going one mile on the main track at Remington Park on Dec. 13 for trainer Doug O’Neill.
Hot Property (Medaglia d’Oro) worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 65 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Fair Grounds on Nov. 24 for Cox.
Tiztastic (Tiz the Law) worked five furlongs in 1:02.0 at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the second fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed third in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 30 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
