Kentucky Derby workout report: Risk It drills for Gun Runner

Risk It, who has nine qualifying points for Kentucky Derby 2024 and will look for more in Saturday's Gun Runner Stakes, worked Sunday at Fair Grounds for trainer Steve Asmussen.

The 2-year-old son of Gun Runner breezed four furlongs in 49.8 seconds.

Risk It picked up his seven Derby points with a second in the Iroquois (G3) and two by finishing fourth in the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2). The Gun Runner offers 10-5-3-2-1 points to the top five finishers.

Risk It was one of nine horse in the Derby futures market with published works Sunday.

Carbone (Mitole), worked five furlongs in 1:02.4 at Oaklawn on Sunday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 39 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start he won a maiden race going six furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 19 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

El Grande O (Take Charge Indy), worked five furlongs in 1:03.3 at Belmont Park on Sunday morning. It was the 11th fastest of 18 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he won the Sleepy Hollow going one mile on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 29 for trainer Linda Rice.

El Magnifico (Street Sense), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the 24th fastest of 35 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed second in a maiden race going seven furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Endlessly (Oscar Performance), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2023 Zuma Beach, 2023 Del Mar Juvenile Turf), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the third fastest of 31 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed eighth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf going one mile on the turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 for trainer Michael McCarthy.
