Kentucky Derby workout report: Honor Marie leads 4 in futures

Honor Marie continued working at Fair Grounds on Sunday, breezing five furlongs in 59.6 seconds, the fastest of five at the distance.

The Honor Code colt, trained by Whit Beckman, has two wins and a second in three starts, most recently going from last to first in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club on Nov. 15. He got back on the work tab on New Year's Eve at Fair Grounds.

Honor Marie was one of four horses in futures wagering for Kentucky Derby 2024 who had published works Sunday.

Catire Vizcaya (Anchor Down) worked four furlongs in 53.2 seconds at Tampa Bay Downs on Sunday morning. It was the 89th fastest of 91 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs. In his last start he placed 10th in the Rocky Run going one mile on the main track at Delaware Park on Oct. 14 for trainer Juan Carlos Avila.

First World War (War Front) worked four furlongs in 48.7 seconds on turf at Palm Meadows on Sunday morning. It was the 12th fastest of 25 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start he placed second in the Mucho Macho Man going one mile on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 1 for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Honor Marie (Honor Code), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Kentucky Jockey Club), worked five furlongs in 59.6 seconds at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the fastest of five works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he won the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25 for trainer D. Beckman.

Wecallemfuncoupons (Twirling Candy) worked four furlongs in 52.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Sunday morning. It was the 16th fastest of 31 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed second in a starter allowance race going six furlongs on the main track at Aqueduct on Jan. 5 for trainer Jeffrey Englehart.
