Eclipse Award winner Citizen Bull, the 11th-ranked qualifier for Kentucky Derby 2025, returned to the work tab Sunday morning at Santa Anita.
Drilling for the first time since his fourth-place finish April 5 in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, Citizen Bull went five furlongs in 1:01.0. That was the 35th fastest of 89 workouts covering that distance on the fast main track.

Citizen Bull is one of the three colts from trainer Bob Baffert’s barn who have qualified for the Kentucky Derby. Rodríguez, who won the Wood Memorial (G2), and Madaket Road, the fourth-place finisher in the Florida Derby (G1), are the others. Madaket Road moved into the 20-horse field Saturday with the defection of Flood Zone.
Asked Sunday if he had finalized his Kentucky Derby roster, Baffert said, “So far all three.”
A 3-year-old colt by Into Mischief and the 2024 champion juvenile male, Citizen Bull is owned by SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, Diane Bashor, Determined Stables, Bat Masterson, Tom Ryan, Waves Edge Capital and Catherine Donovan.
Citizen Bull was the only Kentucky Derby candidate on the work tab Sunday.
Citizen Bull (Into Mischief), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, 2024 American Pharoah), worked five furlongs in 1:01.0 at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the 35th fastest of 89 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on April 5 for trainer Bob Baffert.
