Kentucky Derby weather: Chance of showers persists Saturday

After a wet Kentucky Oaks day on Friday, a chance of rain persists in Louisville, Ky. into Kentucky Derby day, though conditions are not expected to be as consistently showery at Churchill Downs as they were on Friday.

It's a wet Kentucky Derby; now what?

The National Weather Service predicts a high near 80 degrees. The weather should be mostly cloudy through most of the day, but there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The wet weather is expected to be mainly between 1 and 5 p.m. EDT.

Saturday morning the dirt is rated muddy at Churchill Downs, upgraded from the sloppy conditions published during morning works. The turf is rated good Saturday, upgraded from yielding conditions for Friday's stakes races on the lawn.

Post time for the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for 6:57 p.m. EDT on Saturday. The race is set as the 11th of 13 on the card.
