Fountain of Youth (G2) winner Sovereignty drew the widest post on Saturday and was made the 8-5 morning-line favorite for next weekend’s Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby, an automatic qualifier at Gulfstream Park for Kentucky Derby 2025.

Ten 3-year-olds were entered for the two-turn, 1 1/8-mile test next Saturday that has produced a record 25 horses who went on to win America’s biggest race.

Sovereignty, a Godolphin homebred colt sired by Into Mischief, trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Júnior Alvarado, is 2-for-2 going two turns and in Derby preps. He also won the Street Sense on Oct. 24 at Churchill Downs. His 60 qualifying points already make him a virtual certainty to line up for the Kentucky Derby.

Madaket Road, who finished second in the Rebel (G2) at Oaklawn for trainer Bob Baffert, drew post 8 and was made the 7-2 second choice in the program.

Disruptor, who broke his maiden with a 9 1/4-length triumph March 1, and Tappan Street, who finished second last out Feb. 1 in the Holy Bull (G2), return to Gulfstream Park’s main track.

The Florida Derby awards 100-50-25-15-10 points to the top five finishers, making it a certain path to Churchill Downs for the winner with an almost certain invitation also going to the second-place horse.

Next Saturday’s card includes the Gulfstream Park Oaks, a qualifier for the May 2 running of the Kentucky Oaks (G1). Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) winner White Abarrio races in the Ghostzapper (G3), and turf specialists go in the Pan American (G3) and Orchid (G3). The Florida Derby at 6:42 p.m. EDT is the finale on the 14-race card that starts at 11 a.m.
