Kentucky Derby tracker: See updates on 27 alumni

The Derby Alumni tracker checks in with the horses who raced in the Kentucky Derby, both this year and in previous years, keeping up with what they have done since they ran for the roses.

2025 Kentucky Derby

A pair of horses from the most recent Kentucky Derby field returned Oct. 8 at Oi in the Japan Dirt Classic. Luxor Cafe rallied for third, nine lengths behind frontrunning winner Narukami. Admire Daytona tracked the early pace but flattened out, crossing the wire ninth.

Two more horses are entered to race at Keeneland in the coming days. Final Gambit stays on the grass and turns back to a flat mile for Saturday's Bryan Station (G3). He drew post 5 of 12, plus three on the also-eligible list. Friday, Chunk of Gold dials back to allowance company, breaking from the sixth post of eight in a 1 1/8-mile two-other-than allowance for sophomores.

Two others from the Kentucky Derby field returned to the work tab in October for the first time since June. Render Judgment drilled Saturday for the first time since June 5, while Flying Mohawk has worked twice in October, his first timed moves since June 28.

2024 Kentucky Derby

Ten entrants from the 2024 Kentucky Derby have run in recent weeks, including a pair of winners who are expected to return in the Breeders' Cup.

Forever Young, laid off since finishing third in the Dubai World Cup in April, returned to the races Oct. 1 in the Nippon TV Hai. He rallied from midfield to win the 1 1/8-mile dirt race by 2 1/2 lengths over Revontulet. Forever Young, third behind Sierra Leone in the 2024 Breeders' Cup Classic, is pre-entered for another try in the Classic this year.

Mystik Dan also posted another sharp win recently, putting his love of Churchill Downs on display in the Lukas Classic (G2). Despite a challenging trip, he finished with flair and got up by three quarters of a length over Disarm to reward the confidence of the bettors who made him the 3-2 favorite. He will turn back in distance for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

One other horse from the 2024 Kentucky Derby also posted a recent win. Track Phantom, winless since the Lecomte (G3) in January of 2024, made it back to the winners' circle in a conditioned allowance Saturday at Remington Park, going a mile and 70 yards on the dirt. He was sent off the 1-5 favorite, led at every call and crossed the wire 6 1/4 lengths clear.

Three horses from the field recently finished off the board in stakes company. Epic Ride was eighth in the Turf Mile (G1) at Keeneland, T O Password was seventh in the Sirius (G3) at Hanshin and Mugatu was sixth in the Maryland Million Classic. Resilience and Society Man finished third and tenth respectively in an allowance-optional claiming race going 1 1/16 miles on the Keeneland dirt Thursday.

Two horses from the 2024 Kentucky Derby field raced late last month and are entered in the coming days. Honor Marie, most recently third in an allowance Sept. 24 at Churchill Downs, steps back into stakes company for the Fayette (G2) at Keeneland on Saturday. He drew post 2 in the 11-horse field and is a 20-1 long shot on the morning line. Catching Freedom, sixth in an allowance optional claimer at Churchill on September 28, starts from post 7 of nine in a 1 1/16-mile dirt allowance Friday at Keeneland. Catalytic is entered in the same race, and is set to break from the rail.

West Saratoga, sold last December with the stated intent of racing in Dubai, has not yet started in the United Arab Emirates but has recently been added to the Emirates Racing database. According to those records, he is being trained by Bhupat Seemar for owner RRR Racing.

2023 Kentucky Derby

Five horses from the 2023 Kentucky Derby have seen the starter in recent weeks. None won, though Disarm came close: he finished a close second in the Lukas Classic, only beaten by Mystik Dan. Hit Show was fourth in the same race.

One other raced in stakes company. Continuar was sixth in the Tokyo Hai on Oct. 9 at Oi, chasing midfield and never mounting a serious threat to winner Yamanin Cerchi. Sun Thunder finished fifth in an allowance dirt route Sunday at Keeneland, and King Russell was fifth in an allowance-optional claiming dirt route Sept. 28 at Churchill Downs.

Hit Show returns to the races Saturday for his first start since the Lukas Classic. Breaking from the outside post of 11 in the Fayette at Keeneland, he is 6-1 on the morning line.

Raise Cain, who had been off the work tab since a fifth-place run in the Fifth Season at Oaklawn on Jan. 25, is back in serious training. He worked three furlongs at Laurel on Oct. 2 and then four there on Oct. 10.

2022 Kentucky Derby

Three entrants from the 2022 Kentucky Derby have raced in recent weeks.

Tawny Port, who showed sparkling form at Kentucky Downs with a pair of second-place finishes in September stakes, held his form in the Canadian International (G1) on Oct. 4. Rallying from near the rear early, he missed catching pacesetter Silawi by a nose, earning his first placing at the Grade 1 level.

Crown Pride returned Oct. 13 in the Mile Championship at Morioka, turning back after a second-place finish over the same course in July. He was in range early but faded, eventually finishing a well-beaten ninth behind Wilson Tesoro.

Rattle N Roll was most recently sixth in the Lukas Classic, a race won by his Kentucky Derby-winning stablemate Mystik Dan. It was his first start since the Dubai World Cup (G1) in April. Rattle N Roll makes his second start off the summer layoff Saturday, drawing post 6 in a field of 12 for the Fayette at Keeneland.

2021 Kentucky Derby

The field from the 2021 Kentucky Derby has been quiet in recent months, with the last work being a move from Like the King on Aug. 5, a few weeks after his most recent start in an allowance at Colonial Downs in July.

2020 Kentucky Derby

The field for the 2020 Kentucky Derby has been quiet in recent weeks, with no one in action since Enforceable last raced Aug. 31 in Perú.
