The Derby Alumni tracker checks in with the horses who raced in the Kentucky Derby, both this year and in previous years, keeping up with what they have done since they ran for the roses.

2024 Kentucky Derby

Forever Young, third in the 2024 Kentucky Derby, was the hot favorite in the Group 1 Dubai World Cup on Saturday at Meydan. He kept chasing to the wire but could not reel in Hit Show and Mixto, having to settle for third in the $12 million race.

Three others from last year's Kentucky Derby field also raced in stakes company but finished off the board. Epic Ride pressed the pace in the Commonwealth (G3) on Tuesday at Keeneland but flattened out in the late stages to settle for fourth behind Extra Anejo. Just Steel, making his third start since a long layoff to recover from injury, finished fifth behind Banishing in the Oaklawn Mile (G3) on March 1. Honor Marie, making his first start since the Travers (G1), weakened to seventh behind front-running winner Bishops Bay in the American Pharoah Overnight Stakes.

A pair of entrants from the field are racing in the coming days. Catalytic, who was second in an optional-claiming allowance race at Gulfstream in his last start, returns to that level and location Saturday. The race covers a mile on dirt, he drew post 4 in the seven-horse field, and he is protected under the allowance condition.

Mugatu is entered Thursday at Keeneland in a 1 1/16-mile dirt race. He drops in for a $40,000 tag, running in a straight claiming race for the first time in his career. He drew post 10 in an overflow field, with 12 plus four also-eligible entrants.

2023 Kentucky Derby

Three horses from the 2023 Kentucky Derby field have posed for win pictures in the last month. The highest-profile winner is Hit Show, who rallied to reel in Mixto and spring a 41-1 upset in the $12 million Dubai World Cup.

Two others from the field won in allowance company going 1 1/16 miles at Oaklawn recently. On March 14, Disarm made his seasonal debut a winner, tracking a few lengths off the pace, taking the lead in the lane, and holding by a neck over favored Bendoog. The next day, King Russell stalked the pace and cleared off to win by 4 1/4 lengths over Mena, his first win in three starts this year.

Confidence Game stretched out to 1 1/2 miles for the Temperence Hill Stakes at Oaklawn on March 28. He sat off the early pace, never rallied and finished a well-beaten seventh behind Lambeth.

2022 Kentucky Derby

Four horses who were entered in the 2022 Kentucky Derby have raced over the last month. One came home a winner, White Abarrio. His connections opted to keep him at Gulfstream after his win in the Pegasus World Cup in January, and that decision paid off when the flashy grey tracked the early pace and ran 5 1/4 lengths clear of Power Squeeze to win the Ghostzapper (G3) on March 29.

Two others ran off the board in stakes company in their most recent start. Rattle N Roll, well back early in Saturday's Dubai World Cup, never threatened and crossed the wire eighth behind Hit Show. Tawny Port, in his first start of the year, pressed the early pace but weakened to finish sixth behind Far Bridge in the Pan American (G3).

Ethereal Road finished seventh behind Hayes Strike on March 23 in a 1 1/16-mile race at Oaklawn in which he was up for a $50,000 claiming tag. He drops in for a $32,000 tag at Oaklawn on Sunday. The race is also 1 1/16 miles long, and he will break from post 5 in a field of eight.

2021 Kentucky Derby

Two horses from the 2021 Kentucky Derby field raced in recent weeks, and both of them finished in the money.

Helium, in his fourth start of the year, responded to a class drop on March 25 at Parx, finishing second behind We Be There in a 1 1/16-mile dirt race at Parx. In for a $5,000 tag, Helium was claimed to the barn of Tyler Servis.

On March 14 at Aqueduct, Brooklyn Strong hit the board for the second straight time, finishing third in a $16,000 claiming race at 1 1/8 miles on the dirt. He was close to the pace early, and though no match for O P Firecracker or second-place Portos, he was well clear for third. Brooklyn Strong steps up in class Saturday for a starter-optional claiming dirt mile at Aqueduct, where he drew post 6 in the eight-horse field.

2020 Kentucky Derby

Things have been quiet in the last month for the 2020 Kentucky Derby field. South Bend, who last raced in September, is the only horse in the field who has worked this year, though he posted his last drill on Feb. 22.
