Kentucky Derby tab includes final drills for weekend qualifiers
With the last of the 100-point Kentucky Derby qualifiers coming up on Saturday, several colts took to the track Sunday for a final tune-up.
Epic Ride and Just a Touch worked at Keeneland ahead of expected starts in the Grade 1 Blue Grass, Lat Long was the fastest of 41 going four furlongs at Churchill Downs ahead of the Wood Meorial (G2), and Tapalo fired a bullet at Santa Anita ahead of the Santa Anita Derby (G1).
Seven horses in Las Vegas futures for the Kentucky Derby had published works Sunday.
Epic Ride (Blame) worked four furlongs in 52.6 seconds at The Thoroughbred Center on Sunday morning. It was the fourth fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed second in the John Battaglia Memorial going 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic at Turfway Park on March 2 for trainer John Ennis.
Heart Headed (Oscar Performance) worked four furlongs in 47.8 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the fourth fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed second in the Baffle going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita on Feb. 17 for trainer John Sadler.
Just a Touch (Justify) worked five furlongs in 59.2 seconds at Keeneland on Sunday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 15 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed second in the Gotham (G3) going one mile on the main track at Aqueduct on March 2 for trainer Brad Cox.
Lat Long (Liam's Map) worked four furlongs in 46.4 seconds at Churchill Downs on Sunday morning. It was the fastest of 41 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed third in the Lecomte (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Fair Grounds on Jan. 20 for trainer Kenny McPeek.
Legalize (Constitution) worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Keeneland on Sunday morning. It was the 12th fastest of 25 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed seventh in the Swale going seven furlongs on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 3 for trainer Cherie DeVaux.
Scatify (Justify) worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the fifth fastest of eight works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed fourth in the San Felipe (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on March 3 for trainer John Sadler.
Tapalo (Tapiture) worked five furlongs in 58.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the fastest of seven works at the distance.
