The Kentucky Derby trail through Gulfstream Park winds to a close Saturday in the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby run at 1 1/8 miles on dirt. A field of 10 3-year-old colts was entered for the chance to earn 100-50-25-15-10 points toward spots in the Kentucky Derby starting gate.

The Florida Derby historically has been a top Kentucky Derby prep, producing 23 winners since 1953. In 2023, Mage finished a fast-closing second in the Florida Derby before powering past all others to win the Kentucky Derby five weeks later.

This year's field includes Fountain of Youth (G2) winner Sovereignty, third-place finisher Neoequos and Holy Bull (G2) runner-up Tappan Street. Bob Baffert ships Rebel (G2) runner-up Madaket Road to Florida for a rare Derby-prep appearance at Gulfstream. Maiden winners Jimmy's Dailys, Indecisiveness and Disruptor step up to stakes company, and turf winner Enterdadragon tries his talent on the dirt. Smoken Boy, a Grade 1 winner in Puerto Rico, makes his third stateside start while still looking for a win here.

The top HRN speed figure in the Florida Derby is 118 for Tappan Street. Sovereignty, Neoequos and Disruptor all share the next-highest HRN figure at 117. Neoequos holds the top Brisnet Speed Rating of 101. Sovereignty and Tappan Street share the next-highest at 99. The top TimeformUS Speed Figure of 116 is also shared by Neoequos and Tappan Street. Disruptor and Madaket Road share the next-highest at 115. Finally, the top Beyer Speed Figure of 95 was earned by Sovereignty.
