Kentucky Derby odds: Caesars reopens futures with 99 horses
After software limitations caused its Kentucky Derby 2024 futures to be closed for nearly three weeks, Caesars Sportsbook in Nevada reopened its fixed-odds market Friday morning with two colts trained by Todd Pletcher shortening into the top two choices.
Fierceness was cut from 100-1 to 15-1 after winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Grade 1 winner Locked, who finished third in the Juvenile, went from 35-1 to 30-1.
Nysos, the runaway, 2-for-2 winner of last weekend’s Bob Hope (G3) at Del Mar, shortened from 75-1 to a 35-1 third choice. He is trained by Bob Baffert, who is ineligible for the Derby for the third year in a row because of a Churchill Downs suspension. Caesars has consistently listed Baffert horses since they can be made eligible with a transfer to another trainer.
Most of the odds remained the same as they were when betting was suspended just before the Breeders’ Cup so Caesars could upgrade its software in order to comply with regulations preventing wagering from outside Nevada on the Derby futures.
Nine horses were added to the original list and one was dropped, bringing the number of betting choices to 99.
These were the Caesars Nevada odds Saturday at 2:40 p.m. EST shown with openers from Nov. 3 and the live prices displayed in pool 2 of Churchill Downs’ pari-mutuel Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which is available nationwide.
