Kentucky Derby odds: 2 winners make big moves among 77 horses
Tiztastic’s ears could have been ringing from the excitement he generated by winning the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby.
A faint noise echoing across the country Saturday around 6:50 p.m. EDT was the sound of certain horseplayers showing off 119-1 tickets from last weekend’s Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Or maybe even the 110-1 betting slips that were available for Tiztastic in Las Vegas as late as post time Saturday.
Kentucky Derby fair odds look a little like Nevada futures.
After his Fair Grounds triumph, Tiztastic was slashed to 45-1 in the fixed odds at Caesars Sportsbook Nevada and 25-1 at the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas. His pari-mutuel price will not be in play again until next week’s final KDFW pool, but it is safe to say it will not approach triple digits.
Final Gambit, who won the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) at Turfway Park, was cut from 100-1 to 25-1 at the Westgate. He was added at Caesars at 66-1.
Citizen Bull and Journalism, who could meet April 5 in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), were the best-priced co-favorites in Nevada. Each carried 8-1 odds Wednesday at the Westgate. Journalism was at the top of the Caesars board at 6-1 with Citizen Bull next at 7-1.
Sovereignty, the morning-line favorite in Saturday’s Florida Derby (G1), was showing at 9-1 at Caesars and as one of the 8-1 favorites at the Westgate.
The combined 77 horses Wednesday in the Las Vegas futures market for Kentucky Derby 2025 included 75 horses at Caesars and 45 at the Westgate. They are listed in order of their best odds shown in bold.
