Flatter Pod: Kentucky Derby hard-core handicappers preview

Everyone has a pick to win the Kentucky Derby, but fully understanding every entrant and the role each will play in the running of the race is essential to wagering success.

Enter the hard-core handicappers edition of the Ron Flatter Racing Podcast, which invites noted bookmaker John Avello and Horse Racing Nation's Ed DeRosa and Mark Midland to discuss all 23 horses entered in the classic race at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Sometimes agreeing, sometimes not, but always informative, the three discuss not only each entrant's chances of winning America's most famous horse race but also how they might factor into various wagering strategies.

Midland also gives a plug to Mike Shutty's Super Screener, which last year feverishly emailed subscribers to insist they use Rich Strike among their wagers when the Keen Ice colt drew in as number 21.
