Ky. Derby alumni: Fierceness leads 11 in recent action
The Derby Alumni tracker checks in with the horses who raced in recent editions of the Kentucky Derby, keeping up with what they have done since they ran for the roses.
2024 Kentucky Derby
Two horses from the 2024 Kentucky Derby won at Churchill Downs during Kentucky Derby week. Fierceness, making his first start since the Breeders' Cup Classic in November, set a track record in winning the Alysheba (G2) on Friday. He tracked the pace and ran on to win by 1 1/2 lengths over Most Wanted, completing 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.66. Honor Marie stretched out to 1 1/2 miles last Wednesday for the Isaac Murphy Marathon, rallying from last and holding late to beat Timeout by a head.
Saturday in the Lake Ouachita Stakes at Oaklawn, Mystik Dan went for his first victory since the 2024 Kentucky Derby, but he missed by a head. Though he could not overtake odds-on pacesetter Saudi Crown, he still crossed the wire eight lengths clear of the rest of the pack.
Two others from the 2024 run for the roses also raced recently. Track Phantom tracked the pace in a six-furlong allowance race Thursday at Churchill Downs but flattened to cross the wire third behind World Record. Resilience, making his first start since the 2024 Belmont Stakes, battled on the early pace in a dirt-mile allowance Friday at Churchill Downs, but weakened to finish seventh behind Moonlight.

2023 Kentucky Derby
Three entrants from the 2023 Kentucky Derby recently raced. Disarm was the only one to do so in stakes company. On April 19, Disarm lined up for the Oaklawn Handicap (G2). He settled near the rear, chasing on mildly to finish fourth behind favored First Mission.
Two others raced against allowance foes. King Russell, in the same allowance mile Friday at Churchill that featured Resilience, rallied from last to finish fifth. April 19 at Keeneland, Skinner contested the same 1 1/8-mile allowance that Just a Touch won, making an early move but flattening out to finish fourth, a dozen lengths behind the winner.

2022 Kentucky Derby
Ethereal Road is the only entrant from the 2022 Kentucky Derby who has been in recent action. He ran April 13 in a 1 1/16-mile race at Oaklawn, his first start since being claimed to the Mike Maker barn. In for a $32,000 tag, he pressed the pace set by long shot Hern before flattening out to fourth, 4 1/2 lengths behind winner Systemic Change. He was not claimed out of the race.

2020 Kentucky Derby
Enforceable returned to the races April 6 for the first race of his 8-year-old season, and picked up right where he left off. Last seen winning the Clásico Independencia (G2) last July, he returned in winning fashion in the Clásico Aniversario de la Fundación del Jockey Club del Perú. He set the pace and never relented, winning by 3 1/2 lengths over Cyprus the Great.
