Ky. Derby Future Wager: Paladin, Chief Wallabee are top choices

Seven weeks in advance of Kentucky Derby 2026, Paladin, winner of the Grade 2 Remsen and Risen Star (G2), and Fountain of Youth (G2) runner-up Chief Wallabee closed as 8-1 co-favorites in pool 5 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
The Chad Brown-trained Paladin, who runs next in the April 4 Blue Grass (G1) at Keeneland, had $25,772 in win bets, and the Bill Mott-trained Chief Wallabee, scheduled to make his next start in the March 28 Florida Derby (G1), handled $24,790 – a difference of only $982.
Total handle for the KDFW pool, the fifth of six scheduled wagering pools in advance of the Kentucky Derby, $310,430, with $209,189 in the win pool and $101,241 in exactas. That compares with to last year’s $430,006, with $328,063 in the win pool and $102,003 in exactas.
