Kentucky Derby Future Wager: Fierceness is 5-2 in pool 6

Four weeks in advance of the 150th running of the $5 million Kentucky Derby, bettors made Grade 1 Florida Derby winner Fierceness the 5-2 favorite with Risen Star (G2) and Blue Grass (G1) winner Sierra Leone the 7-1 second choice in the sixth and final pool of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Japan’s unbeaten Forever Young was the 8-1 third betting choice.

The three-day pool closed Saturday at 4 p.m. EDT in advance of the day’s three road to the Kentucky Derby races: the Wood Memorial (GI), Blue Grass (G1) and Santa Anita Derby (G1).

Resilience won the Wood Memorial and closed at odds of 76-1. Stronghold prevailed in the Santa Anita Derby and was 30-1 in the KDFW.

Total handle for the April 4-6 KDFW pool, the final future wager pool in advance of the Kentucky Derby on May 4, was $376,038, with $268,996 in the win pool and $107,042 in exactas). The total is down from $369,443 in 2023, when there was $271,230 in the win pool and $98,213 in exactas.

A total of $2,052,391 was bet on Derby and Oaks future wagers this year, a 13 percent increase from last year’s $1,813,542.
