Kentucky Derby 2026: Obliteration leads 2-year-olds on tab

Obliteration breezed three furlongs in 39.0 at Fair Grounds on Friday morning. It was the 16th fastest of 18 works at the distance.

The 2-year-old son of Violence is trained by Steve Asmussen.

Obliteration placed fourth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) at Del Mar on Oct. 31. He won the Sanford (G3) at Saratoga on July 5, posting a 91 Beyer Speed Figure, according to Daily Racing Form. He placed second in the Saratoga Special (G2) at Saratoga on Aug. 2.

Obliteration has a career record of 6: 2-3-0 with earnings of $505,800 for owner Leland Ackerley Racing.

Captivator (Charlatan) worked five furlongs in 59.0 seconds at Santa Anita on Friday morning. It was the fastest of 23 works at the distance. Falcon Jet (Justify) worked five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Los Alamitos on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of 13 works at the distance. His previous work was 15 days ago going four furlongs at Los Alamitos. In his last start he placed third in a maiden race going one mile on the turf at Santa Anita on Oct. 4 for trainer Bob Baffert.

Maximus Prime (Maximus Mischief) worked five furlongs in 1:02.4 at The Thoroughbred Center on Friday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. His previous work was 14 days ago going five furlongs at The Thoroughbred Center. In his last start he placed fifth in a maiden race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Keeneland on Oct. 18 for trainer Anthony Mitchell.
