Kentucky Derby 2026: Chip Honcho drills ahead of Risen Star

Chip Honcho drilled at Fair Grounds on Sunday ahead of his expected start in the Grade 2 Risen Star.

The son of Connect came home fourth in the Lecomte (G3) at Fair Grounds last time out.

The 3-year-old breezed five furlongs in 1:01.8 seconds, 16th fastest of 26 at the distance. This marked his second timed work since placing fourth in the Lecomte (G3).

Chip Honcho captured the Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 20. Before that, he won a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs on Nov. 20. He settled for second in his debut at Keeneland on Oct. 16.

Chip Honcho has a career record of 4: 2-1-0 with earnings of $160,475 for owner Leland Ackerley Racing.

Chip Honcho was one of 10 Kentucky Derby 2026 hopefuls with published works on Sunday.

Universe (Global Campaign), worked five furlongs in 1:01.6 at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the 14th fastest of 26 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed seventh in the Smarty Jones going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on Jan. 3 for trainer Kenny McPeek.

Chip Honcho (Connect), worked five furlongs in 1:01.8 at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the 16th fastest of 26 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed fourth in the Lecomte (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Fair Grounds on Jan. 17 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

Bull by the Horns (Essential Quality), worked four furlongs in 49.7 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Sunday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 48 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going one mile and 40 yards on the main track at Tampa Bay Downs on Jan. 16 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Tripp's Promise (Promises Fulfilled), worked four furlongs in 49.7 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Sunday morning. It was the 20th fastest of 48 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In his last start he placed sixth in the Mucho Macho Man going one mile on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 3 for trainer Dale Romans.

Kid Charlemagne (By My Standards), worked four furlongs in 52.0 seconds at Oaklawn on Sunday morning. It was the 89th fastest of 95 works at the distance. His previous work was 22 days ago going five furlongs at Oaklawn. In his last start he placed fifth in a starter allowance race going one mile on the main track at Oaklawn on Dec. 27 for trainer Sean Williams.

So Happy (Runhappy), a Grade 2 winner (2026 San Vicente), worked four furlongs in 47.8 seconds at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the second fastest of 55 works at the distance. His previous work was 13 days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he won the San Vicente (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 10 for trainer Mark Glatt.

Greenwich Village (Quality Road), worked five furlongs in 1:02.2 at Santa Anita on Sunday morning. It was the 48th fastest of 64 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he won the Baffle going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita on Jan. 25 for trainer Bob Baffert.
