Kentucky Derby 2026: Chip Honcho drills ahead of Risen Star
Chip Honcho drilled at Fair Grounds on Sunday ahead of his expected start in the Grade 2 Risen Star.
The son of Connect came home fourth in the Lecomte (G3) at Fair Grounds last time out.
The 3-year-old breezed five furlongs in 1:01.8 seconds, 16th fastest of 26 at the distance. This marked his second timed work since placing fourth in the Lecomte (G3).
Chip Honcho captured the Gun Runner Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 20. Before that, he won a maiden special weight at Churchill Downs on Nov. 20. He settled for second in his debut at Keeneland on Oct. 16.
Chip Honcho has a career record of 4: 2-1-0 with earnings of $160,475 for owner Leland Ackerley Racing.
Chip Honcho was one of 10 Kentucky Derby 2026 hopefuls with published works on Sunday.
Universe (Global Campaign), worked five furlongs in 1:01.6 at Fair Grounds on Sunday morning. It was the 14th fastest of 26 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed seventh in the Smarty Jones going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Oaklawn on Jan. 3 for trainer Kenny McPeek.

His previous work was nine days ago going five furlongs at Fair Grounds. In his last start he placed fourth in the Lecomte (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Fair Grounds on Jan. 17 for trainer Steve Asmussen.
