Kentucky Derby 2025 weather: Early forecast looks good-ish

If the very early forecast holds form, it should be a lovely day at Churchill Downs for Kentucky Derby 2025. For the most part.

The National Weather Service does not have a forecast for May 3 in Louisville, Ky., yet, but The Weather Channel does.

It calls for a partly cloudy day with a high of 74 degrees and a 24% chance of precipitation. Kentucky Oaks day on Friday is forecast at 77 degrees with a 47% chance of showers.

While we wait for the forecast to come into more focus, here are Derby day weather facts from the NWS.

The coldest temperature was 36 degrees in 1940 and 1957.

The coldest high temperature was 47 degrees in 1935 and 1957.

The warmest temperature was 94 degrees in 1959.

The wettest Derby day was in 2018, when 3.15 inches of rain fell.

The only Derby day with frozen precipitation was in 1989, when sleet was observed from 1:01 p.m. EDT to 1:05 p.m.

Out of the 150 Derby Days, 72, or 48%, experienced rain at some point during the day.
