Kentucky Derby 2025 weather: Expect rain in Louisville

The day of Kentucky Derby 2025 is expected to be rainy Saturday at Churchill Downs.

As of early Saturday afternoon the chance of precipitation in Louisville, Ky. is 100% according to forecasters from the National Weather Service. New rainfall between a tenth and a quarter of an inch are likely to accrue, a downward revision compared to Saturday morning. There is a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 5 p.m. EDT, with thunderstorms more likely among the showers after 5 p.m. EDT. Forecasters call for a high near 63.

Into the night, there is a 60% chance of rain with showers and thunderstorms likely until 4 a.m. EDT Sunday, with showers expected to continue even after that. Forecasters expect another quarter-inch to half-inch of rain overnight.

The dirt track at Churchill Downs has been rated sloppy. Despite the rain races are scheduled for the turf as usual, with that surface being rated good.
