Kentucky Derby 2024 rankings: New movers into top 50

We're now at that exciting time of the Kentucky Derby 2024 trail where things can change our outlook on Derby contenders from week to week. This week the Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes will help us learn more about contenders such as Track Phantom, Nash, Ethan Energy and Can Group.

But this past week we had new contenders jump into the top 50 rankings with notable performances.

At Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Conquest Warrior overcame a troubled trip to break his maiden impressively for trainer Shug McGaughey. That performance was enough to move the son of City of Light into this week's Top 50.

Just three races earlier on Saturday, Turn Up The Trees won his debut for trainer Todd Pletcher. The 3-year-old colt is a son of Liam's Map who also broke into the top 50.

Here's a look at upcoming stakes that will shed more light on the top Derby contenders and their top 50 ranking:

Lecomte, Saturday, Jan. 20. Nash (5), Track Phantom (17), Ethan Energy (29).

Southwest, Saturday, Jan. 27. Otto the Conquerer (39), Lightline (42), Just Steel (44).

Holy Bull, Saturday, Feb. 3. Fierceness (1), Generous Tipper (10), The Wine Steward (15), Deterministic (36), Haul (50).
