Kentucky Derby 2021: See the top-heavy futures in Vegas

Odds are predictably shortening for horses in the final days of the 2021 Kentucky Derby futures. The biggest question is how low will Essential Quality go?

With only eight days until the post-position draw, the undefeated Eclipse Award winner has shortened from 7-2 to a best price of 3-1 at William Hill Nevada and plus-275 at Circa Sports.

Only 23 horses remain on a futures list that once numbered more than 300. Since it is more likely that most of these 3-year-olds will start the race, the odds for 17 of them shortened in the past week. Midnight Bourbon had the most significant move, going from 30-1 to 22-1.

In what may be a preview of coming attractions in post-time pari-mutuels, five horses are best-priced at 10-1 or shorter:

  3-1 Essential Quality

  5-1 Known Agenda

  5-1 Rock Your World

10-1 Highly Motivated

10-1 Hot Rod Charlie

Soup and Sandwich (32-1), Dynamic One (45-1) and Helium (50-1) held steady since last Monday.

Since his connections have not confirmed whether he will start in the Derby, Caddo River drifted from 75-1 to 100-1.

Currently also-eligibles in the Derby qualifying, Keepmeinmind (90-1) and Starrininmydreams (180-1) were restored to the Nevada futures.

These are the current Kentucky Derby odds at Circa and William Hill:
