Kentucky Derby 2018 odds: McKinzie current Vegas favorite

With Bolt d’Oro’s 2018 Kentucky Derby odds fluctuating between 7-1 and 14-1, the Wynn Las Vegas established another West Coast stalwart, McKinzie, as its top choice in odds distributed this week.

While he’s a multiple Grade 1 winner, Bolt d’Oro hasn’t raced since finishing third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. His current Wynn price is 14-1 ahead of a 3-year-old debut in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes on March 10 at Santa Anita Park.

Could he match up with McKinzie there? It’s possible. The Wynn has the Bob Baffert trainee at a stable 8-1 with his record 3-for-3 following a victory in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes last month, also at Santa Anita.

Other top choices are Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and 2-year-old champion Good Magic (12-1) and Audible (15-1) who impressively won the Grade 2 Holy Bull.

Also noteworthy: Justify, who on Sunday posted the current 3-year-old class’ best Beyer Speed Figure of 104 in his debut, could have been bet had at 300-1 before hitting the wire an impressive winner at Santa Anita Park.

Figures distributed this week by the Wynn Las Vegas still list the Bob Baffert trainee at that price, though we’ve been assured the odds were knocked down for anyone thinking of running to the race book.

But there’s still value to be had, especially if you like top runners coming out of last weekend’s points-paying preps.

The Wynn lists Bravazo, who won the Grade 2 Risen Star, at 40-1. And as for the horse he beat by a norse? Snapper Sinclair can still be bet at 85-1. My Boy Jack, who took the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes, is 50-1 with Mourinho, who didn’t take well to mud on the front end, is up to 85-1 as well. Others on the board in the Southwest were Combatant (60-1) and Sporting Chance (65-1).
