Kentucky Derby 2018 odds: A look at the preps' top contenders
The latest 2018 Kentucky Derby odds offered by the Wynn Las Vegas reflect the perceived strength of Saturday’s Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes field — as well as highlight the value in contenders pointing to other preps over the holiday weekend.
At 5-2 on the Lecomte morning line, Principe Guilherme is already down to 20-1 at the Wynn for the Derby. The other top contender in the Fair Grounds feature, West Coast shipper Instilled Regard, is 65-1, a much higher price but still among the top choices just short of four months from the May 5 Derby. While 15-1 in the Lecomte, Lone Sailor has always been well-regarded by the Wynn. He, too, is a 65-1 shot.
As far as contenders in Saturday’s Jerome Stakes at Aqueduct, Firenze Fire is 75-1 with multiple graded stakes victories already to his name. Mourinho, who could go favored in Monday’s Smarty Jones at Oaklawn Park, is 125-1 at the Wynn.
Bolt d’Oro (7-1), recent Grade Sham Stakes winner McKinzie (10-1) and Good Magic (14-1) are the shortest-priced horses on the board. Notably, Mask dropped from 45-1 to 25-1 following his dominant win in last weekend’s Mucho Macho Man Stakes.
