Kentucky Derby 2018: William Hill US opens future odds betting
By Jonathan Lintner
Approaching the six-month mark until the first Saturday in May, William Hill US this weekend released its opening odds for the 2018 Kentucky Derby.
No surprise who they list as the favorite, either.
Las Vegas-based William Hill offered prices on 112 aspiring 2-year-old horses led by undefeated Bolt d'Oro, the overwhelming Breeders’ Cup Juvenile favorite at 20-1 for the Derby — noteworthy, as the Wynn Las Vegas has already dropped him to 10-1.
Bolt d’Oro has opened his career 3-for-3 with a pair of Grade 1 victories in the West Coast races that recently launched American Pharaoh and Nyquist before their own Derby-winning campaigns.
At 35-1, Breeders’ Futurity winner Free Drop Billy’s the second choice, with a handful of others, including Champagne Stakes winner Firenze Fire, at 50-1. Notably, Engage, who took Belmont’s Futurity Stakes and could try two turns next month at Aqueduct for trainer Chad Brown, is available still at 125-1.
