The Kentucky Derby 2017 weather forecast has almost been as unpredictable as the race itself. From rain, to sunshine, and now back to rain, the 143rd Kentucky Derby looks now to be a little wet, cloudy, and cool, instead of the sunny and warm first Saturday in May we were all hoping for.

Wave 3 Weather is reporting a 30% chance of rain on Saturday in the Louisville, Kentucky area. The high temperature is predicted to be 64 degrees, while the low is predicted to be 40. There’s possible showers that could hit Churchill Downs early in the morning, with a chance for more showers in the afternoon.

While it will be colder and cloudier than one would hope for on Derby day, the forecast is not hopeless. The sunshine may not be abundant, but the rain is expected to clear out in time for the Kentucky Derby. There’s also a chance for sun breaks late in the day. Post time for the Kentucky Derby is 6:46pm ET. Classic Empire is the 4-1 morning line favorite and breaks from gate 14.

The Kentucky Oaks does not seem as fortunate as the Derby. There’s a 70% chance of rain in the Friday forecast, with predictions of on and off light showers throughout the day. The high will be around 55 degrees and the low 42. Oaks goers will also need to hold onto their hats, as the wind will be picking up in the afternoon. 6:12pm ET is the post time for the Kentucky Oaks. The favorite is number four, Paradise Woods, with morning line odd of 5-2.
