Kendrick Carmouche is out about 3 weeks with hairline fracture
Kendrick Carmouche is expected to be out of the saddle for about three weeks with a hairline fracture to his right tibia.
First reported by David Grening of Daily Racing Form, Carmouche was stepped on by a horse he worked Thursday morning at Belmont Park. He went to first aid after riding the first and fourth races at Aqueduct on Thursday. He finished fourth in both with Corton Charlemagne and North Pole. He took off the rest of his mounts for the day, and his doctor diagnosed him with a hairline fracture based on X-rays.
Agent Jimmy Riccio told Horse Racing Nation on Saturday morning that Carmouche would not need surgery. He said Carmouche planned to visit his doctor again in two weeks to check the progress and find out when he could ride again and was optimistic that Carmouche would return soon.
"He's a positive person. He'll be back in three weeks or so, back doing what he loves," Riccio said.
Carmouche had been named on nine horses at Aqueduct on Wednesday, including Interpolate for trainer Chad Brown in the Ruthless on Sunday. He was also named on one horse at Parx Racing on Monday.
Carmouche has 23 wins at the Aqueduct winter meet, placing him third behind Dylan Davis's 28 wins and Manuel Franco's 25. His $1,205,758 in purse earnings also placed him third behind the same two riders. Carmouche won the riding title at the Aqueduct autumn meet with 33 wins, two clear of Davis.
