Keeneland Recap – Saturday, October 4, 2014

Edge to early-pressing types on the fast main track (2 wire jobs – 8.5f, 6f). Three turf races produced a wire job (No Nay Never, – 5.5f), a pressing winner (Dayatthespa – 8f), and a patient type (Wise Dan – 8f).

Five wins for Johnny V including all three Grade 1’s. Todd Pletcher saddled two juvenile winners.

Wise Dan was the star of the day, overcoming a bad start and lack of pace to win the G1 Shadwell Turf Mile by a length. Carpe Diem looked good capturing the G1 Breeders’ Futurity and appears to have a bright future for Pletcher.

Looking back at yesterday’s suggested Late Pick 4 tickets, I ended up with three wins (Carpe Diem, Wise Dan, Enchantress) and a second (Better Lucky). Close but no cigar!
