Keeneland opening day draws 120 entries for 10 races

Friday's opening day at Keeneland drew 120 entries, with four of the 12 races on the card oversubscribed.

The card, with a post time of 1 p.m. EDT, includes three stakes, the Ashland (G1), the Transylvania (G3) and the listed Lafayette.

The oversubscribed races are No. 1, a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight for 2-year-olds; No. 2, a seven-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-old fillies; No. 5, a 6 1/2-furlong optional-claiming allowance for 3-year-old fillies; and No. 10, a maiden special weight at 1 1/8 miles on turf for 3-year-old fillies.

Saturday's Keeneland card features five graded stakes, the Blue Grass (G1), Madison (G1), Appalachian (G2), Shakertown (G2) and Commonwealth (G3). The Saturday card will be drawn Wednesday.

The National Weather Service forecast for Lexington, Ky., on Friday calls for a cloudy day with a high of 58 degrees. Saturday will be partly sunny with a high of 63.

Keeneland's 15-day spring meet runs through Friday, April 28.
