Keeneland increases minimums on Pick 3, superfecta wagers
The Pick 3 and superfecta will have new minimums when Keeneland begins its spring meeting April 3.
The rolling Pick 3 will have a $1 minimum except for the all-turf and late Pick 3s, which both will have $3 minimums. The rolling Pick 3 was previously 50 cents. The superfecta will have a 50-cent minimum, up from a dime. Takeout on the $3 all-turf Pick 3 is 15%. Takeout on all other Pick 3 and superfecta wagers is 22%. Takeout on rolling doubles is also 15%.
"Wagering is a central part of the Keeneland racing experience, and we're continually looking for
ways to provide horseplayers with better information and more compelling wagering opportunities,"
Keeneland vice president of racing Gatewood Bell said in a news release.
To help promote the wagers as well as market pari-mutuel wagering in this age of sports betting, Keeneland has built a website that will include handicapping information as well as projected odds for each race of the spring meeting. Horse Racing Nation is one of the data providers for the projected odds dashboard.
To complement the projected odds, Keeneland, in partnership with United Tote, also will update odds every five seconds inside two minutes to post.
"This spring, we're rolling out some new tools and refining our wagering menu, and at the same time, we’re expanding our national coverage to share Keeneland racing with new fans," Bell said. "This gives everyone a chance to see what we love about the sport, and we’re thrilled to offer more ways for people to tune in and enjoy the races."
Speaking of Horse Racing Nation and data, we analyzed 146,722 Pick 3 sequences at tracks across North America the past five years and learned that although the median payout is unlikely to change much, if at all, with the jump from a 50-cent to $1 minimum on the Pick 3, the outlier payouts are likely to increase. So if you like a long shot, your payout is likely helped by the higher minimum.
Below are the average payouts for each wager in 2025 at Keeneland, standardized to $1 for each exotic.
