Keeneland January Sale Starts Monday
Keeneland begins its 57th January Horses of All Ages Sale on Monday, Jan. 12. A total of 1,610 horses were cataloged to the sale, which runs through Jan. 15.
The January Sale catalog includes 605 broodmares, 135 racing or broodmare prospects, 563 yearlings, 282 horses of racing age and 25 stallion prospects. Numerous leading sires of 2014 are covering sires and/or are represented by yearlings in the sale.
Offerings include North American champion Blind Luck; stakes winner Foxy Danseur, in foal to North America’s record-setting leading sire of 2014, Tapit; and two Group 2-winning daughters of Galileo (IRE), both in foal to the globally successful stallion War Front. They are Twirl (IRE) and Up (IRE), whose yearling filly by War Front also is cataloged.
Broodmares in the catalog are in foal to a total of 168 stallions. In addition to Tapit and War Front, sires include Animal Kingdom, Awesome Again, Bernardini, Blame, Bodemeister, Candy Ride (ARG), Congrats, Curlin, Empire Maker, Into Mischief, Lemon Drop Kid, Lookin At Lucky, More Than Ready, Orb, Pioneerof the Nile, Point of Entry, Quality Road, Scat Daddy, Shanghai Bobby, Speightstown, Street Cry (IRE), Tapizar, The Factor, To Honor and Serve, Trappe Shot, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and Violence.
The January Sale also is noted for short yearlings, which are horses that officially turned a year old on Jan. 1. Among the 2014 stakes winners sold as yearlings at the sale are Grade/Group 1 winners Corozaleno and Hardest Core; Grade 2 winners Alert Bay, Ball Dancing, Cairo Prince, Conquest Harlanate, Toast of New York and Twilight Eclipse; and Grade 3 winners Fashion Alert, Five Iron, Gamay Noir and Sheza Smoke Show.
Among the 168 sires of yearlings in the catalog are Bernardini, Bodemeister, Candy Ride (ARG), City Zip, Congrats, Curlin, Distorted Humor, Giant’s Causeway, Hard Spun, Harlan’s Holiday, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Lookin At Lucky, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Pioneerof the Nile, Quality Road, Speightstown, Street Cry (IRE), Tapizar, The Factor, To Honor and Serve, Trappe Shot, Unbridled’s Song, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.
