Keeneland: 2-year-old filly Gotta Lotta Tempo is euthanized
First-time starter Gotta Lotta Tempo was euthanized Friday after suffering an injury late in the sixth race at Keeneland.
“There was an incident in race 6 involving Gotta Lotta Tempo and jockey Tyler Gaffalione,” a Keeneland statement said. “Both were immediately attended to on track. Due to the severity of the injury, humane euthanasia was elected in the best interest of the horse. Tyler Gaffalione was evaluated by (University of Kentucky HealthCare) medical staff and cleared to ride.”

There were no specifics provided about the injury.
According to the Equibase chart for the race, “Gotta Lotta Tempo raced forwardly along the inside, tracked while bottled inside of rivals around the turn, moved out in upper stretch but sustained an injury and fell leaving the three-sixteenths pole, then was transported off the track in an equine ambulance.”
The $85,000 race was a 6 1/2-furlong, main-track sprint for maiden 2-year-old fillies.
Owned by V12 Racing and Westlake Racing Stable and trained by Robby Medina, Gotta Lotta Tempo was by Maclean’s Music out of Arch mare Bartoletta. Bred at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, she was a $35,000 purchase at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. She had been a regular on The Thoroughbred Center work tab since August.
