Karlovy Vary Recovering From Leg Injury

Grade 1 stakes winner Karlovy Vary is recovering nicely from a leg laceration suffered July 29 in the Nani Rose Stakes, in which she finished third to Alaura Michele.

“ Karlovy Vary got her leg chopped up when she ran in the Nani Rose, and she got 15 stitches in her right front leg,” said trainer George “Rusty” Arnold of the 3-year-old Dynaformer filly, winner of the Grade 1 Ashland this past spring at Keeneland. “They healed up, they’re out, and there’s no permanent damage. She’s back on the racetrack and back in training.”

Arnold said there was a lot of concern immediately after the race, but the cut, fortunately, missed the tendons and suspensory ligaments.

“She’s fit, but she missed 10 days of training,” said Arnold, who is eyeing the Grade 1, $300,000 Garden City Handicap, a 1 1/8-mile turf race in September 15 at Belmont Park , for Karlovy Vary ’s next start.
