Karelian injured, retired

KARELIAN (Bertrando), the eight-year-old gelding who had developed into one of the nation's top turf milers over the past year, has been retired due to injury, according to a report in Daily Racing Form. The Rusty Arnold trainee suffered a fractured sesamoid during a workout at Keeneland on Saturday while preparing for the the August 1 Fourstardave H. (G2) at Saratoga.

"It was a really, really bad fracture," Arnold told the trade daily.
