Favored Just Google Me took full advantage of a quick early pace, rolling to an easy victory under jockey Edwin Maldonado in the $100,000 Barretts Debutante Saturday at Los Alamitos.
Returning to the scene of her debut win when nearly 33-1 July 3, the 2-year-old daughter of Stormin Fever took charge early in the stretch and powered home 9 ½ lengths in front of pacesetter and 8-1 shot Sambamzajammin.
The win in 1:17.51 for the 6 ½ furlongs was the second in four starts for Just Google Me, who paid $3.60, $2.80 and $2.20 as the 4-5 choice. Out of the Cryptoclearance mare Lila Paige, the California bred has not been worse than third for trainer Scott Rollins.
Purchased for $17,000 at the Barretts October sale last year, Just Google Me increased her earnings to $127,500 for Denver attorney Chad Calvert’s C T R Stables LLC.
“We figured there was plenty of speed and she’s always come from off the pace,’’ said Rollins. “We thought the distance would suit her and it set up the right way.’’
Rollins and Calvert indicated Just Google Me will make her next start in the $200,000-guaranteed Golden State Juvenile Fillies Oct. 29 at Del Mar. The seven furlong race is the opening day feature of the track’s Bing Crosby meet.
Seeking her first win since she graduated in her second career start nearly four months ago at Santa Anita, Sambamzajammin set 21.51 and 44.82 fractions for the opening half-mile, but was no match for the winner in the final two furlongs.
Ridden by Alonso Quinonez, the Heatseeker filly saved the place by a neck over first time starter and 29-1 outsider Miss Injustice. Sambamzajammin returned $6.60 and $4.20 while the show price on Miss Injustice was $5.40.
Racing resumes Sunday at Los Alamitos. Post time is 2 p.m.
The main event – the eighth race of nine – is the $100,000 Barretts Juvenile.
The 6 ½-furlong Juvenile is restricted to 2-year-old colts and geldings offered for purchase at any Barretts sale.
Good for It, a maiden who was 13 ½ lengths clear of the rest of the field when second in his Aug. 23 debut at Del Mar, is the 5-2 favorite on Russ Hudak’s morning line.
A son of Neko Bay and the Tale of the Cat mare Our Good Fortune, Good for It is trained by Cliff Sise, Jr. for owner Marla Shontere. Rafael Bejarano will ride.
Approximate post time for the Juvenile is 5:30 p.m.
