Ju Ju Eyeballs Looks for Another Stakes Win
Trainer Jason Servis will send his charge Ju Ju Eyeballs, who is currently a perfect 3-for-3 in stakes events on the turf at Monmouth, into Sunday’s Fort Monmouth Stakes in search of her fourth career stakes win.
“She’s been doing great, really well,” Servis said, “She ran an awesome last race coming off the layoff. Paco (jockey Lopez) rode her great and she came out perfect.”
In her last race Ju Ju Eyeballs sprinted five and a half furlongs on the turf in 1:01 1/5 in her first race back from a nine month layoff to claim victory by nearly two lengths in the Klassy Briefcase Stakes at Monmouth on July 13.
When asked about the layoff Servis said, “She had throat surgery so we gave her some time off, but she came out excellent. Couldn’t have asked for better.”
Ju Ju Eyeballs also came out on top in her two stakes tries on grass last year, winning both the Just Smashing and Crank It Up Stakes in Oceanport. She will again try the turf this Sunday in the Fort Monmouth.
“Her turf races are great,” said Servis. “She prefers the dirt a little more, but she’s versatile.”
A 4-year-old filly by Gators N Bears out of the Smarten mare Savvy Lady, Ju Ju Eyeballs has won seven of his 14 lifetime starts, four of which have come on grass, good for $247,010 in lifetime earnings.
A Mr. Amore Stable color-bearer, Ju Ju Eyeballs is the morning line favorite at 5-2, but will face stiff competition in graded stakes runner Allaboutcaroline, second choice on the line at 7-2. A field of 11 is set to sprint five and a half furlongs this Sunday in search of the Fort Monmouth’s $60,000 purse.
“She’ll probably be towards the front of the pack,” Servis said. “She breaks on top every time, so we expect her to be up there.”
Jockey Paco Lopez will return aboard Ju Ju Eyeballs in the Fort Monmouth, which will go as race 10 on Sunday’s 11-race card.
