Leading Kentucky Derby 2025 contender Journalism will stand at Ashford Stud upon his retirement from the racetrack. The Coolmore partners, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith will also participate with the current ownership during his racing career.

Journalism has emerged as the consensus favorite in Kentucky Derby futures after multiple Grade 2 victories. Trained by Michael McCarthy for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Bridlewood Farm, Don Alberto Stable, Robert LaPenta and Elayne Stables 5, Journalism concluded his juvenile season with an impressive victory in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2).

He made his 3-year-old debut on March 1 in the San Felipe Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. He displayed a powerful closing surge to overtake the 2-5 favorite, Barnes, winning by 1 3/4 lengths. He faces both Barnes and juvenile champion Citizen Bull on Saturday in the Santa Anita Derby (G1).

The son of Curlin is the first foal out of the multiple Grade 1 performer Mopotism (Uncle Mo) and was bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corporation. Mopotism secured 3 wins including the La Cañada Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita, while also placing in four Grade 1 races: the Ogden Phipps, Starlet, La Brea and Santa Margarita Stakes, amassing total earnings of $876,090. Journalism was sold at Fasig-Tipton’s 2023 August sale for $825,000 to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners out of the Denali Stud consignment.

"We are delighted to be joining Eclipse, Bridlewood Farm, Don Alberto Stable, Elayne Stables 5 and Robert LaPenta in Journalism’s future," M. V. Magnier of Coolmore said. "He's a very exciting prospect, very good looking colt with an impeccable pedigree, we look forward to a big career with him.
