Jockey Sanjur is being evaluated after spill at Keeneland
Jockey Santo Sanjur was unseated during Friday’s third race at Keeneland, which was declared a no-contest.
Sanjur was moving his legs and was able to sit up, according to an X post by Carlos Morales, a reporter for Agentes 305.
Keeneland Racing said in an X post that Sanjur was being evaluated by University of Kentucky Healthcare. The horse, Ransomware, was transported back to the barn as a courtesy ride for precautionary reasons. He was evaluated and has minor abrasions, according to the Keeneland post.
Ransomware, a 5-year-old gelding, got up after the spill and briefly ran in the opposite direction and bucked before being caught by an outrider, Nicole Russo of Daily Racing Form said in an X post.
Ransomware is trained by Ismael Bahena. Initially trained by Phil D’Amato, he was claimed in June 2024 at Churchill Downs and then again by current owner Reyes Gutierrez in a March 5 victory at Turfway Park, where he had his third win in a row. He then was eighth in a starter allowance at Turfway on March 27 ahead of before Friday’s race at Keeneland.
