Jockey Channing Hill, who was thrown from his mount in an Oaklawn Park race last Friday, has undergone surgery for a neck and back injury, according to journalist Robert Yates.

Yates, who contributes to Oaklawn's barn notes, tweeted the information Tuesday via trainer Wayne Catalano, who also is Hill's father-in-law.

"I'm going to, hopefully, get him out of the hospital in the next day or two," Catalano said. "We've been blessed."

Catalano told Yates that there is no timetable for Hill's return, adding that NFL quarterback Peyton Manning had the same surgery. Manning returned from an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion to win a second Super Bowl before retiring.

Hill, aboard Muskoka Wonder in a one-mile claiming event, was fading out of contention between horses nearing the far turn when the 4-year-old colt appeared to take a bad step and throw the jockey. The Ontario-bred colt, trained by Randy Morse for Easy Street Stable, was euthanized, according to Paulick Report.

Muskoka Wonder, by Into Mischief out of No Wonder, had a career record of 13: 2-0-0. His wins came when he broke his maiden at Woodbine in July 2018 and in his second race, the Clarendon Stakes at Woodbine in August 2018.
