Jockey Eric Cancel is out indefinitely with an injury
Jockey Eric Cancel is out indefinitely because of an injury.
Cancel posted to X on Thursday night that he would not be able to ride until further notice according to a doctor's orders. He did not specify the injury but said it happened while riding.
Cancel planned to ride at Monmouth Park through the summer meet. He last rode races Saturday at Monmouth, when he finished third in a maiden claimer with Timothy Hills-trained One Bid and fourth in the Serena's Song Stakes with Todd Pletcher trainee Waveless. He had one other ride coming up. He was named on Rock Steady Babe on Saturday at Belmont at the Big A for trainer Charlton Baker.
Cancel started his riding career in Puerto Rico, riding at Camarero before moving to the mainland in March 2015. He has won 15 times at the graded-stakes level, most recently with the Bill Mott-trained Bold Journey in the Tom Fool (G3) at Aqueduct in February. He has 10 wins in 114 starts this year, and 907 in 7,889 career outings.
