Jockey Dalton Brown injures shoulder in Aqueduct fall
Jockey Dalton Brown was injured at Aqueduct on Sunday after the horse he was riding, Perfect Senorita, fell near the three sixteenths. The injury happened in the sixth race on the card, a $40,000 claiming sprint for 3-year-old fillies on the dirt.
Brown was alert and conscious after the fall, and was transported to Jamaica Hospital for treatment according to a tweet by Keith McCalmont of NYRA. Preliminary results indicated that Brown sustained damage to ligaments in his right shoulder, though tests were still being conducted as of Sunday evening.
Brown has two wins in 50 starts this year, and 31 victories in 801 career rides dating back to 2007. He has mainly ridden on the NYRA circuit this year, though in previous years he also rode regularly at Finger Lakes.
Perfect Senorita suffered a catastrophic injury to her left front leg according to both McCalmont and the Equibase chart for the race, and was euthanized on track. Perfect Senorita was 4: 1-0-1 with $24,686 in earnings for trainer Norman Follett and owner Alex Kazdan. A daughter of Klimt, her win came on debut in March in a $20,000 maiden claiming dirt sprint at Aqueduct with Brown in the saddle.
