Jockey Calvin Borel Out 3-4 Weeks

Racing Hall of Fame rider Calvin Borel, who was injured in a fall during Wednesday’s sixth race at Keeneland, is expected to be out three to four weeks, according to his agent, Jerry Hissam.

“He has a broken fibula but no concussion,” Hissam said. “He came home last night and is sore this morning, and it looks like he will be out three to four weeks. Hopefully he can make the last three or four days of the Churchill Downs meet that ends Nov. 30.”

Borel was riding Sonic Dancer, who fractured his right front cannon bone shortly after the start of the 1 1/16-mile turf race. Paramedics were not immediately able to remove Borel from the course a little distance after the finish line and the stewards ruled the race a no contest to ensure the safety of the horses and riders.

Sonic Dancer was vanned off the track and later euthanized.
