Jockey Bryson Butterfly is arrested in connection with murder
Bryson Butterfly, an 18-year-old jockey at Charles Town, was arrested Thursday in connection with an April murder in Baltimore County, Md.
The U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force said in a news release that Butterfly was arrested in Harpers Ferry, W. Va. He was one of three suspects charged with first-degree murder and robbery, according to the release. Butterfly’s two alleged co-conspirators previously were arrested and were in the Baltimore County Detention Center.
The Baltimore County Prosecutors Office requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force in locating and apprehending Butterfly, according to the release. The investigation revealed Butterfly had fled the area and might be in Jefferson County, W. Va.
The CARTF in conjunction with the MSFTF determined Butterfly was residing in Harpers Ferry, according to the release. Further information received during the investigation led detectives to Charles Town, where Butterfly was known to be a jockey.
On Thursday, members of the MSFTF arrested Butterfly at his residence.

Butterfly was being held at the Eastern Regional Jail to await his extradition to Maryland.
According to Paulick Report, which reported the arrest Sunday, Butterfly is a native of Washington state. He began riding in 2021 and has an overall record of 771: 58-89-120 with earnings of $2,093,284. He most recently rode Wednesday at Penn National, where he had three mounts.
